Use for: Zinc is an essential trace element that is used for prevention and treatment of zinc deficiency, Wilson disease, common cold, influenza, upper respiratory tract infection, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), neuropathy and healing wounds. Zinc plays a role of immune function, would healing, taste and smell, thyroid hormone function and insulin action. Vegetarians, alcoholics, patients with malabsorption syndromes or receiving hemodialysis may be at risk of zinc deficiency so zinc supplements may be required.
Concerns: Zinc is mostly well tolerated in appropriate dose but higher than recommended dose may cause adverse events such as copper deficiency and associated symptoms, watery diarrhoea, flu-like symptom and impaired immune response.
