Use for: Vitamin C is water- soluble vitamin and used for prevention and treatment of ascorbic acid deficiency. Ascorbic acid is essential for the formation of collagen and intercellular material with development of cartilage, bone and teeth as well as wound healing. It influences the formation of haemoglobin, erythrocyte maturation and immunologic reactions.
200mg of vitamin C per day was suggested to prevent Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) and other respiratory infections, and 1-2g per day at the onset of symptoms for recovery, although there is no strong evidence for it.
Concerns: Large doses of ascorbic acid may cause false lab test results, and more than 1g of dose with prolonged period may cause precipitation of oxalate in the urinary tract for the patient with renal disease and crisis for the patients with sickle cell anemia.
