Use for: Resveratrol is a naturally occurring hydroxystilbene, a type of polyphenol. It is orally used for obesity, atherosclerosis, hypercholesterolemia, cancer, cardiovascular disease, cognitive function, age-related cognitive decline, diabetes, diabetic nephropathy, metabolic syndrome, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Concerns: Resveratrol is mostly well tolerated in appropriate doses. Higher than recommended dose may cause gastrointestinal disorder, loose stools and diarrhoea. For the patients on peritoneal dialysis, resveratrol may cause constipation, headache, muscle cramps, fatigue and memory loss. Avoid using higher than the amount in foods or wine source of resveratrol on pregnancy or lactation.
