Use for: Propolis is a natural flavonoid-rich resin produced by bees from digested tree buds and barks. It is used for diabetes, oral mucositis, bacterial and fungal infections, common cold, upper respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection and periodontitis.
Concerns: Propolis is mostly well tolerated in appropriate doses. People allergic to bees or bee products may cause allergic reactions to propolis. There is little information for using propolis on pregnancy or lactation. Avoid using on pregnancy and caution on lactation.
Concomitant use of propolis with herbs that have anticoagulant properties such as angelica, clove, danshen, panax ginseng, garlic, ginger and ginkgo may increase the risk for bleeding.
