Use for: Astaxanthin is naturally occurring carotenoid pigments to be used for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), Alzheimer’s disease, parkinson’s disease, cognitive function, hypercholesterolemia and reducing oxidative stress. It also can be used for improving athletic performance, reduced wrinkled skin, fatigue and rheumatoid arthritis.
Concerns: Astaxanthin is mostly well tolerated in appropriate doses with some side effects of red fecal color and increased bowel movements. Higher doses, 40mg daily may cause stomach problem. Not recommended to use on pregnancy and lactation because of little information.
