Alpha-Lipoic acid is antioxidant compound that is naturally produced in our body. It can be consumed from foods such as broccoli, organ meats, spinach and potatoes.
Use for: Alpha-Lipoic acid can be used for diabetic neuropathy, hyperlipidemia and obesity. It is also used for neuroprotectant with the antioxidant in Alzheimer’s disease and MCI (mild cognitive impairment).
Concerns: Alpha-Lipoic acid is mostly safe in appropriate doses for 3 months to 2-4 years. There is no reliable data of using lower dose of alpha-lipoic acid in children.
Alpha-lipoic acid use on pregnancy for short-term, 600mg daily for 4 weeks may be safe, and there is no reliable data of using alpha-lipoic acid on lactation. Please consult health care providers for using alpha-lipoic acid on pregnancy and lactation.
